Not every product on the market. How we rank

Not ranked: Kanary Core ($250 a year) publishes no broker count for that plan, so it can’t be placed on this criterion.

Each data removal service, in ranked order

Each block below gives the plan we ranked, its price, and the evidence we could find beyond the vendor’s own claims.

1. Cloaked Individual

Cloaked lists the most sites of any standard plan here: 1,000+ data removal sites for $119.99 a year. Cloaked’s own September 2025 comparison post counts 140+ data brokers, so the larger figure also includes people-search and other sites. Cloaked sells data removal inside a privacy app that also offers phone and email aliases, call blocking and identity theft insurance. No independent study has measured Cloaked’s removal rate; our Cloaked review covers the aliases and the coverage caveat. Skip it if you only want data removal and don’t need the aliases.

2. Privacy Bee Essentials

Privacy Bee Essentials covers 608 people-search sites for about $8 a month billed yearly; Privacy Bee calls that figure approximate and doesn’t print the yearly total. Essentials covers people-search sites only and no custom sites. Pro adds broader brokers (1,438 in total) for about $16 a month. Privacy Bee was not in the Consumer Reports study.

3. Aura Individual

Aura Individual includes removal from 425+ data brokers and people-search sites, at $12 a month billed yearly or $15 month to month. Aura is an identity theft protection plan first, with credit monitoring, identity theft insurance, antivirus and a VPN in the same price. Annual plans carry a 60-day money-back guarantee. Skip it if you already pay for identity theft protection elsewhere.

4. Incogni Standard

Incogni Standard sends automated requests to 420+ data brokers for $95.88 a year. Deloitte’s 2025 limited-assurance report checked that broker count and Incogni’s re-send intervals, but it didn’t measure how many listings come down. Standard has no custom removals; Unlimited adds them for $179.88 a year. Our in-depth Incogni review covers the report and the cancel terms.

5. Optery Core

Optery Core costs $39 a year and covers 380+ sites, or 150+ if you leave its Expanded Reach setting off. Core removes one name and one city per person and has no human agent. Optery posted the best result in the Consumer Reports study, 68%, but on its Ultimate tier ($249 a year), not Core. Our Optery review compares its plans.

6. Onerep Individual

Onerep Individual covers 317 people-search sites for $8.33 a month billed yearly. Individual Pro raises that to 876 brokers plus custom requests for $15.95 a month. Onerep was not in the Consumer Reports study.

7. EasyOptOuts

EasyOptOuts covers 200+ of the most visible data brokers and people-search sites for $19.99 a year, fully automated. EasyOptOuts has the strongest independent evidence for its price: 65% of profiles removed after four months in Consumer Reports’ 2024 study. Skip it if you want a person to chase stubborn listings.

8. DeleteMe Standard

DeleteMe lists 969 sites on its own coverage page, but only 91 carry its “Included in Standard Plan” mark; most of the rest are custom requests. DeleteMe Standard costs $129 a year and includes human privacy experts and quarterly reports. Consumer Reports measured 27% removed after four months. Our full DeleteMe review breaks down the site list.

Do data removal services actually work?

Data removal services remove some of your listings, not all of them. Consumer Reports enrolled 32 volunteers, 4 per service, with 7 services in May–September 2023 (published 2024) and checked 13 people-search sites over four months.

Service (tier CR used)Removed within 4 months
Optery (Ultimate)68%
EasyOptOuts65%
IDX (Privacy)40%
Kanary34%
DeleteMe27%
ReputationDefender (Privacy Pro)6%
Confidently4%

Manual opt-outs did better than any paid service in the first week: 70% of profiles were gone, against at most 58.7% for the paid services. Every participant still had listings at every checkpoint. Incogni, Aura, Cloaked, Privacy Bee and Onerep were not in the study.

Free ways to remove your data

Free removal takes more of your time but costs nothing. Californians can send one deletion request to over 600 registered data brokers through the state’s DROP platform. Anyone can ask Google to drop contact details from its search results, though the source page stays up. Our guide on how to remove personal information from the internet walks through the free steps in order.

Data removal vs identity theft protection

Data removal services take your details off broker and people-search sites; identity theft protection watches your credit and accounts and helps after fraud. Aura sells both in one plan (see how Aura compares with LifeLock), and the others on this list sell removal only.

How we ranked these services

We ranked each data removal service by the number of data brokers its standard individual plan covers, as the vendor publishes it, with the lower published annual price breaking ties. We checked every count and price on the vendor’s own page on October 24, 2026. Vendors count differently: some count people-search sites only, and DeleteMe doesn’t print a plan total, so its figure is our count of its own list. Affiliate status never changes a position; see how we review.

How to choose a data removal service

  • Want the lowest price? EasyOptOuts, at $19.99 a year.
  • Want the best measured removal rate? Optery Ultimate, the top result in Consumer Reports’ study.
  • Want a person handling odd listings? DeleteMe, or an upgraded tier at Incogni, Optery or Onerep.
  • Already need identity theft protection? Aura includes removal in its identity plan.
  • Live in California? File the free DROP request first, then decide whether you still need a service.

Frequently asked questions

Do data broker removal services actually work?

Data removal services work partly. In Consumer Reports' 2024 study, paid services removed 35% of 332 profiles within four months, and the best two removed 68% (Optery) and 65% (EasyOptOuts).

What is the cheapest data removal service?

EasyOptOuts is the cheapest data removal service we compared at $19.99 a year for one person, checked October 24, 2026.

Can a data removal service delete everything about me?

No data removal service deletes everything. Services send opt-out requests to the sites on their list; court records, news stories and sites that ignore requests stay up.

Do I have to keep paying for data removal?

Data brokers re-list people as they buy new records, so removal only lasts while requests keep going out. Incogni, for example, re-sends requests every 60 days to public brokers, per Deloitte's 2025 limited-assurance report.

Can data removal services remove me from Google results?

Removing the source listing is what clears a Google result. Google's own tool removes contact details from Google Search only, not from the site that hosts them.
