How we rank Not ranked: Eramba (priced in euros only: €2,500 a year on-premises, Community edition free); Archer (quote only, no published price); Hyperproof (quote only, no published price); LogicGate (quote only, no published price); MetricStream (quote only, no published price); Optro (formerly AuditBoard) (quote only, no published price); Scrut (quote only, no published price); ServiceNow GRC (quote only, no published price); Thoropass (quote only, no published price).

Each price is the lowest published annual list price for the entry plan plus one framework, from the vendor’s own pricing page or its public AWS Marketplace listing (12-month list prices, not negotiated ones). Drata and Secureframe tie, so they share a rank and sit A–Z. Partner status never changes the order.

What is GRC software?

GRC software is a platform that keeps your controls, policies, risks and audit evidence in one system, mapped to the frameworks you report against. GRC stands for governance, risk and compliance.

What GRC tools do:

  • Control mapping: one control (say, MFA) satisfies SOC 2, ISO 27001 and HIPAA requirements at once
  • Evidence collection: integrations pull screenshots, configs and HR records for the auditor
  • Policies and training: templates, employee sign-off and records
  • Risk and vendor registers: a risk list with owners, plus security reviews of your suppliers
  • Trust center and questionnaires: a public security page and help answering customer questionnaires

What GRC software does not do: it doesn’t perform the audit, and it doesn’t fix your controls for you. A SOC 2 report still comes from a CPA firm. Most tool vendors are not CPA firms and cannot attest that controls work, the Journal of Accountancy reported in February 2026.

Compliance automation vs enterprise GRC

Compliance automation and enterprise GRC are two ends of the same market: compliance automation gets a startup through SOC 2 or ISO 27001, while enterprise GRC runs risk, audit and regulatory programs across a large company.

The 14 GRC tools

Each tool below shows its published price or “quote only”, the frameworks the vendor names, and who should skip it. Ranked tools come first, in table order.

1. OpenGRC

OpenGRC has the lowest published paid price we found: $4,500 a year for Basic and $7,500 for Enhanced, which adds onboarding training and chat support. The Community edition is free to self-host. OpenGRC’s GitHub page names ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIST CSF and HIPAA.

  • Who it’s for: a small team that’s comfortable running its own software.
  • Skip it if: you want evidence pulled automatically from dozens of cloud tools. OpenGRC is source-available (Elastic License 2.0), not open source in the strict sense.

2. Sprinto

Sprinto costs $9,500 a year on AWS Marketplace: $7,500 for the Starter platform (up to 100 employees) plus $2,000 for one framework (SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, CPRA or GDPR).

  • Who it’s for: a startup that needs one framework at the lowest list price among the automation tools here.
  • Skip it if: you need several frameworks; each one adds to the bill.

3. Vanta

Vanta’s Essentials package lists at $14,000 a year for 1–20 employees, with Plus at $21,500 and Professional at $23,000 (list prices on AWS Marketplace). Add-ons include a Trust Center ($6,000) and Questionnaire Automation ($10,000). Vanta’s own site shows no prices; our Vanta pricing breakdown covers every plan.

  • Who it’s for: a small SaaS company that wants SOC 2 plus a public trust page.
  • Skip it if: you have more than 20 employees and want a price before a sales call; the listed prices are starting costs for 1–20 employees.

4. Drata

Drata’s Foundation package lists at $15,000 a year for companies with 1–50 employees. A second listing prices a 100-employee platform at $25,000 plus $7,500 for each framework, so SOC 2 there costs $32,500.

  • Who it’s for: companies under 50 employees that want a single package price. Weighing it against Vanta? See how Drata compares with Vanta.
  • Skip it if: you’re past 50 employees and need several frameworks; per-framework pricing adds up fast.

5. Secureframe

Secureframe costs $15,000 a year on AWS Marketplace: $7,500 for the platform (up to 100 employees) and $7,500 for the first framework. The listing names SOC 2, ISO 27001, HIPAA, CMMC, NIST 800-171 and PCI DSS among others, and says all fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable.

  • Who it’s for: a company that expects to add CMMC requirements or NIST frameworks later.
  • Skip it if: you want the lowest SOC 2 list price; Sprinto lists lower.

Eramba (not ranked: priced in euros)

Eramba’s Enterprise edition costs €2,500 a year on-premises or €5,000 hosted, a flat fee with unlimited users. The Community edition is free on-premises. Eramba names ISO 27001, SOC 2, NIS2, DORA and GDPR. We don’t rank Eramba because it publishes euro prices only and our criterion is a US dollar price.

  • Who it’s for: a team that wants a free edition and can host it.
  • Skip it if: you want a guided, done-for-you SOC 2 program.

Quote-only GRC platforms

Eight GRC platforms publish no price on their own sites, so they can’t be ranked by price. We list them A–Z.

How much GRC software costs

GRC software costs from nothing (self-hosted community editions) to $32,500 a year for Drata’s 100-employee platform with SOC 2, among the list prices we found; enterprise suites quote only.

Price band (per year)Tools
FreeEramba Community, OpenGRC Community (self-hosted)

$14,000–$15,000Vanta Essentials, Drata Foundation, Secureframe with one framework
$21,500 and upVanta Plus and Professional, Drata 100-employee platform
Quote onlyThe 8 platforms above

Add-ons push the bill up. Vanta’s Third Party Risk Management module lists at $13,600 a year for up to 50 vendors. Each extra Drata framework on the 100-employee listing adds $7,500.

The software never includes the audit. Budget separately for the CPA firm or certification body; our SOC 2 certification guide sets out audit fees and timelines, and our page on SOC 2 audit and software costs adds them up.

How to choose GRC software

Choose GRC software by matching it to the frameworks you need this year and next, then comparing the real price for your headcount. Six checks:

  1. Frameworks now and next. One framework favours the cheapest single-framework price; three or more favours per-company pricing.
  2. Integrations. Check that it connects to your cloud, identity provider, HR system and code host.
  3. Pricing unit. Employees, frameworks or both. Ask for the price at your headcount a year from now.
  4. Auditor network. If the vendor refers auditors, ask which CPA firm signs the report.
  5. Contract terms. Look for auto-renewal, price increases and cancellation rules before you sign.
  6. Evidence export. Make sure you can take your evidence with you if you switch tools.

Do you need GRC software for SOC 2?

You don’t need GRC software for SOC 2: a small company can track controls and evidence in spreadsheets, and the CPA firm audits the controls, not the tool. A tool starts to pay for itself when you run more than one framework, answer frequent security questionnaires or want evidence collected automatically. For AI governance, several of these vendors also support ISO 42001.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best GRC tool for startups?

For a startup that needs SOC 2, the best fit is usually a compliance automation tool. By published list price, Sprinto is the lowest of those we compared at $9,500 a year with one framework, ahead of Vanta, Drata and Secureframe.

Is ServiceNow a GRC tool?

Yes. ServiceNow sells GRC solutions, including Integrated Risk Management, Business Continuity Management and Third-Party Risk Management, built on its own platform. ServiceNow publishes no price for them.

Are there free GRC tools?

Yes. Eramba's Community edition and OpenGRC's Community edition are free to self-host. You run the servers and get community support only.

Does GRC software include the audit?

No. GRC software prepares you and collects evidence, but a SOC 2 report comes from a CPA firm and an ISO certificate from an accredited certification body, billed separately. Thoropass is an exception that sells software and audits together.

What's the difference between GRC and compliance automation?

Compliance automation is the startup and SMB end of GRC: tools that connect to your cloud and HR systems to collect evidence for SOC 2, ISO 27001 or HIPAA. Enterprise GRC suites add risk registers, internal audit, regulatory change and third-party risk across a large company.
