How we ranked the MDM tools

We ranked each tool by its published annual price for 50 devices, on the cheapest plan that manages iPhone and iPad, Android, Windows and Mac, from the vendor’s own pricing page on October 24, 2026. For tools priced per user (Intune, JumpCloud) we assumed one device per user; for per-device prices we multiplied by 50 devices and 12 months. Those totals are our sums of published prices, before tax and before any volume discount a sales rep may offer.

Tools that manage only Apple devices, or that publish no price, are listed under the table with the reason. Partners and non-partners are ranked by the same rule. More on our method is on how we review.

The 12 MDM tools, in rank order

Each MDM tool below gets its verdict first, then its price, platforms and main limit.

1. ManageEngine Mobile Device Manager Plus

ManageEngine Mobile Device Manager Plus is the cheapest mixed-fleet option we found: the cloud Standard plan costs $645 a year for 50 devices with one technician login. ManageEngine’s edition matrix shows Standard enrolling Apple (through Apple Business Manager), Android Enterprise, Windows 10 and 11 and Chromebooks. FileVault encryption for Macs and remote control sit in the Professional edition. The free edition manages up to 25 devices with all features, so a team with 25 or fewer devices can start without paying.

Skip it if you need several admins on day one: extra technician licenses are sold separately.

2. Hexnode UEM

Hexnode UEM is the runner-up on price at $3.20 per device a month billed annually for the Enterprise tier, or $3.60 billed monthly. Enterprise is Hexnode’s cheapest tier that adds desktop management; the lower Pro tier focuses on phones and tablets. Hexnode’s pricing starts at 15 devices and includes a 14-day trial.

Skip it if you need remote screen viewing on Windows or Mac; Hexnode reserves that for the Ultimate tier.

3. IBM MaaS360

IBM MaaS360 Essentials starts at $4.24 per client device a month and covers smartphones, tablets, laptops and apps in one plan. IBM’s page also shows a lower “discounted” starting price without saying who qualifies, so treat the list price as the planning number.

Skip it if you want a clear billing term up front: the pricing page doesn’t say whether the figure is monthly or annual.

4. Scalefusion

Scalefusion’s Business plan, at $5 per device a month, is its cheapest plan that lists Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. The cheaper Essential plan ($2) covers only Android and iOS. Scalefusion bills annually only, with a 10-device minimum.

Skip it if you want monthly billing.

5. Microsoft Intune

Microsoft Intune Plan 1 costs $8 per user a month as a standalone license, according to Microsoft’s Intune pricing FAQ. Many small businesses already own it: Microsoft 365 Business Premium ($22 per user a month, paid yearly, up to 300 users) lets you manage Windows, Mac, iOS and Android devices, per Microsoft Learn.

Skip it if your company doesn’t use Microsoft 365; the standalone price ranks fifth here.

6. JumpCloud

JumpCloud’s Device Management package costs $9 per user a month billed annually. JumpCloud is a directory first, so the price makes most sense if you also want its single sign-on and user management.

Skip it if you only need MDM: four tools above cost less.

Jamf (no Windows)

Jamf now publishes prices: Jamf for Mobile costs $5.75 per device a month and Jamf for Mac $12.50, both billed annually with a 25-device minimum. Jamf Now, aimed at smaller teams, starts at $4 per device a month. Jamf for Mobile covers iOS, iPadOS and Android and Jamf for Mac covers macOS, but neither Jamf plan manages Windows, so it can’t rank on a four-platform criterion.

Mosyle (Apple only)

Mosyle Business Premium is the cheapest Apple-only option we found, at $1 per Mac, iPhone or iPad a month, billed annually with a 30-license minimum. Mosyle Business Free covers up to 30 Apple devices.

Iru (formerly Kandji)

Iru, the new name for Kandji, manages Apple, Windows and Android devices but asks you to request a quote; the old kandji.io pricing address now redirects to iru.com.

NinjaOne MDM

NinjaOne sells MDM alongside its remote monitoring tools. NinjaOne’s pricing FAQ gives a general per-device range for its whole platform that varies by region and product, not an MDM price, so we list it unranked.

SOTI MobiControl

SOTI MobiControl targets rugged Android, kiosks and warehouse devices, and publishes no price.

Google Workspace endpoint management

Google includes endpoint management in Workspace plans (Fundamental on lower tiers, Advanced and Enterprise higher up), so it’s a fit only if you already pay for Workspace.

What does MDM software do?

MDM software lets an IT admin set up, secure and track company devices remotely, without touching each one. The core jobs are the same in every tool we compared:

  • Enroll devices automatically through Apple Business Manager, Android Zero Touch or Windows Autopilot.
  • Push settings such as Wi-Fi, email, VPN and passcode rules.
  • Install and update apps silently, and block unapproved ones.
  • Lock, locate or wipe a lost or stolen device.
  • Report compliance, such as which devices are out of date or unencrypted.

MDM vs UEM vs EMM: what’s the difference?

MDM manages devices, EMM adds app and content control, and UEM extends the same console to laptops and desktops.

TermPlain meaningWhat it manages
MDM (mobile device management)Control of the device itselfPhones and tablets: settings, lock, wipe
EMM (enterprise mobility management)MDM plus apps and work dataPhones, tablets, managed apps and documents
UEM (unified endpoint management)One console for every devicePhones, tablets, Windows, Mac, Linux, ChromeOS

Most vendors on this page now sell UEM under the MDM name, which is why “MDM software” searches return tools like Hexnode UEM and Scalefusion.

Is there free MDM software?

Free MDM software exists for small fleets: ManageEngine’s free edition manages up to 25 devices and Mosyle Business Free manages up to 30 Apple devices. If your company already pays for Microsoft 365 Business Premium or Google Workspace, device management is included in those plans. Most other vendors offer a 14- or 30-day trial rather than a free tier.

How to choose MDM software for a small business

Pick MDM software by the devices you own and the accounts you already pay for:

  1. Mixed iPhone, Android, Windows and Mac fleet on a budget: start with ManageEngine or Hexnode.
  2. Microsoft 365 Business Premium already in place: use Intune before buying anything else.
  3. Only Apple devices: Mosyle, at $1 per device a month, costs less than any cross-platform tool here; Jamf ($5.75 for phones, $12.50 for Macs) costs more.
  4. Rugged Android, kiosks or shared devices: Scalefusion, Hexnode or SOTI.
  5. You also need staff logins under control: pair MDM with an enterprise password manager and, for remote access to office systems, a business VPN.

For other business security tools, such as small business antivirus, see our endpoint security guides.

Frequently asked questions

Which MDM software is best for a small business?

On published price for a 50-device mixed fleet, ManageEngine Mobile Device Manager Plus is cheapest at $645 a year, followed by Hexnode. If every device is an Apple device, Mosyle costs $1 per device a month.

What can MDM see on my phone?

On a company-owned phone, MDM can see device details, installed managed apps and settings, and can lock or erase the device. On a personal iPhone enrolled with Apple's User Enrollment, Apple says IT can manage only the organization's accounts, settings and data.

How do I know if my iPhone is enrolled in MDM?

Open Settings > General > VPN & Device Management. Apple's iPhone User Guide says installed profiles are listed there; a management profile means the device is enrolled.

Can MDM be removed from a device?

The organization that enrolled the device can remove it. Apple's iPhone guide notes that deleting a profile also deletes the settings, apps and data that came with it.
